2001 The EMA AMAZONIA joint 47 teams from 17 countries and different brazilian states nin the ost beautiful scenariosof the rain forest. Though, intense and dangerous race, giving the privilege to tthe teamwith best strategy and physical strengh to tolerate the amazonic summer. 30 teams completed the course, from which 16 in the "Expedição" category (main) and 14 in the "Aventura". The organization gathered a compatible structure as to a military action to allow the teams crussing the Amazon river in local sail boats, specially developed for the event, and crossing through the jungle yet inexplored, thick, challenging and full of wild animals. The intense warmness, the powder of the endless earth roads and the few water available attacked the teams. Over the waterfall of Ambrosio riverwas realized a 80m rappel, then the teams rowed in the inflable kaiakes through the dangerous Maicuru river, full of waterfalls and waterflow. In the last days of competition started raining over the region (for the first time in 60 days), releiving a little bit of the warmness. The last stage of the race, cannoying in local ships through the clear water of the Tapajós rivers meeting with the dark waters of Amazon river, with the 3 meters long waves, finishing in Alter do Chão, only area of the world with beaches of white sands and sweet water(Tapajós river), a lost paradise. The winning team was the finland Nokia Adventure that completed the course in 112 hours and 33 minutes. RACE BRIEFING
